IBM says it has agreed to acquire Candle Corporation, a privately held software and consulting company based in El Segundo, CA. Financial details were not disclosed.
Candle has more than 3,000 customers in 50 some countries. It offers a broad set of solutions to help businesses develop, deploy and manage their enterprise infrastructure. The acquisition will provide customers with enhanced software solutions for managing an on demand operating environment and complements IBM’s middleware solutions.
“Candle brings award-winning infrastructure management expertise and technology to the IBM software portfolio,” said Steve Mills, senior vice president and group executive of IBM Software Group. “Together we will provide customers with powerful capabilities for managing end-to-end infrastructure, processes and applications, which are key requirements for the on demand operating environment.”
“Candle has been an IBM Business Partner since our founding in 1976,” says Aubrey Chernick, chairman and chief executive officer of Candle Corporation, “and we’ve always taken synergistic paths with our technologies and strategies. Combining the two companies will offer our customers a more comprehensive set of solutions, which will enable IT to deliver greater business value.”
The acquisition is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2004.
