LA7 is also the exclusive TV broadcaster for Italy
Paris, March 17, 2005 – Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) official partner of the 32nd America’s Cup and the Italian television broadcasting company LA7, a subsidiary of the Telecom Italia Media group, signed an exclusive agreement in Italy for the distribution by LA7 of high added value content such as images, videos and live coverage of the America’s Cup over mobile phones and the Internet in Italy (including San Marino and the Vatican City). LA7 will redistribute the content through its sister companies – TIM for the mobile part and Telecom Italia for the Internet part. The first services will be available for the next Louis Vuitton Acts of the America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain, which is scheduled for June 16th to 26th, 2005, and more features and content will be added leading up to the America’s Cup Match in 2007.
Thanks to this partnership between Alcatel and LA7 – which is also the exclusive TV broadcaster for Italy – the America’s Cup will receive exceptional media coverage in this country, on television of course, but also – and this is totally new – through mobile phones and the Internet, thereby contributing to the success of this prestigious event.
Italian supporters of the America’s Cup will be able to get the latest news of this mythical race via their mobile phone or the Internet. They will have access to videos, images and live 3D animations showing races, race replays and highlights of the day and push and pull information (SMS and MMS). They will also be able to download logos and take part in the America’s Cup interactive games and forums at all times, whether at home, in the office or on the move.
As official partner of the event, Alcatel has showcased “live sailing event” services recently at the 3GSM World Conference in Cannes in which multimedia content was made available to visitors through SMS, MMS, MMS-Video, 2D/3D animations and video streaming. These services are based on Alcatel’s “Mobile Kiosk” portal solution, which allows content aggregation and service delivery in a hosted and operated mode.
As Fabrizio Grassi, CEO of LA7 points out: “LA7 relies on Alcatel’s expertise in new media and its capacity to integrate a global fixed, mobile and TV service offering. Alcatel’s media content package will enable LA7 to reach a far wider audience, providing subscribers with a unique experience of the America’s Cup, wherever they are in Italy and whenever they want. ”
Etienne Fouques, President of Alcatel’s mobile communications activities declared “The America’s Cup is the high-tech pinnacle of the sailing world, and thanks to our agreement with LA7, it will be given unprecedented media coverage, enabling Italian subscribers to follow the event from anywhere in Italy thus giving it even greater visibility. We have no doubt that this contract, our first with the Italian broadcasting group, will mark the beginning of a fruitful relationship. The agreement is in line with Alcatel’s “triple-play” strategy – that is to say a combined fixed and mobile telephony and TV broadband offering – and its vision of a user-centric broadband experience”.
LA7 is a TV station of Telecom Italia Media, the Telecom Italia Group’s internet and media company. LA7 is well known in Italy as an authoritative network; a network of opinions that guarantees quality, in-depth coverage and editorial courage. LA7 is popular with hard to please viewers who have turned over from the classic general channels because they are seeking something new and different. Because of its emphasis on delving deeply into issues and presenting both sides of the argument, LA7 remains significantly different from other channels. Its 360° view of reality is the network’s raison d’etre. Clear language, balance and an elegant tone are its mode of expression. LA7’s alternative approach permeates its sport presentation too: not just football, but a wide range of sports and events among which rugby, super bike and sailing.
