C.A. Metro Los Teques, the public operator of the Los Teques metro line, has awarded the ALSTOM-led FRAMECA consortium a turnkey contract worth 204 million € for the metro of Caracas. ALSTOM’s share is worth about 90 million €.

The Los Teques line is an independent line running 9.8 km from Las Adjuntas at the south end of Line 2 to El Tambor in the centre of Los Teques. It will relieve congested roads and complement the existing metro network. The first lane will be put into service in October 2006 and the second lane beginning of 2008.

ALSTOM will supply six trainsets, the traction electrification and the signaling equipment for the Los Teques line in continuation of metro line 2. ALSTOM will also be in charge of the co-ordination of this project with SGTE as co-leader. The delivery is expected to start in 2006.

Four ALSTOM sites in France will be involved in this contract : Valenciennes will be in charge of the rolling stock integration. Tarbes will provide the electrical equipment. Villeurbanne will be in charge of the rolling stock controls. Saint Ouen will co-ordinate the project, design and provide the signaling equipment and the traction energy. In Belgium, Charleroi will be responsible for the electric and electronic integration.

ALSTOM has been a key supplier to the metro of the Venezuelan capital for the last 30 years and has so far delivered 600 cars for metro lines 1,2 and 3. The company also did the rolling stock maintenance of 400 metro cars and provided signaling equipment and power supply for these lines.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than 60 countries, ALSTOM’s Transport sector offers complete products and services for new rolling stock, signaling, and electrical and mechanical infrastructure as well as maintenance and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners. ALSTOM’s Transport sector, with sales of 4.9 billion euros in financial year 2003-2004, is among the world’s leading suppliers to the railway industry.
