Customers Worldwide Benefit from Significant Innovations in BusinessObjects XI Release 2

Next Version of Industry’s Most Advanced and Complete Business Intelligence Platform Praised by Top Performing Companies

SAN JOSE, Calif. and PARIS – October 3, 2005 – Welcome to the future of business intelligence. It is a future that starts today with the launch of BusinessObjects™ XI Release 2. Business and technology leaders around the world now have the opportunity to experience what hundreds of Business Objects customers who tested the ground-breaking new platform already know – that significant innovations in BusinessObjects XI Release 2 give users a way to access information and share knowledge as they have never done before.

Business Objects had more than 100 customers and partners in the worldwide beta program. Customer and partner feedback played a significant role in the development of BusinessObjects XI Release 2. Feedback from the beta program participants has been overwhelmingly positive, and shows that BusinessObjects XI Release 2 provides substantial improvements and innovations across the platform. These innovations include BusinessObjects Intelligent Question™, which allows non-traditional BI users to get fast, accurate answers to their business questions.

BusinessObjects XI Release 2 has been tested and evaluated by top performing companies including Air France/KLM, The Allstate Corporation, AstraZeneca, America Online, Inc., BellSouth, Caterpillar Inc., Cingular Wireless, The Clarks Companies, Coors Brewing Company, Cox Communications, Fannie Mae, FedEx Kinkos, France Telecom, Ford Motor Company, L’Oreal, Nestle, Penske Logistics, Renault, Standard Bank of South Africa, SYSCO Corporation, T. Rowe Price, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc), University of Queensland, and Volvo Group. Following are some comments from customers who have tested BusinessObjects XI Release 2.

Armee de Terre (The French Army)
“BusinessObjects XI Release 2 gives us a guarantee that we can capitalize on our previous BusinessObjects development,” said Commissaire Commandant Wagner, Project Manager Cedicat – Armee de Terre. “Thanks to the new migration wizard, we were able to choose between a one-by-one document migration, or all documents. Within one hour, we had converted 100 percent of our documents. This is a remarkable time saver for us. BusinessObjects XI Release 2 will also allow us to offer a 100 percent web interface to widen our decision-making platform, by multiplying by 10 the number of our users on five sites. The Commissiariat de l’Armée de Terre is, within the Ministry of the Defense, responsible for personnel support activities. Business Objects allows the follow-up of the payments for the civil staff, that is 40,000 persons, as well as the follow-up of the logistic stocks and soon it will allow the follow-up of the expenses of mission and the pay of the reserves.”

Assurance France Generali
“Within the group Generali in France, business intelligence needs do not stop growing,” said Pascal Michelon, IT architect at Assurance France Generali. “During our participation in the BusinessObjects XI Release 2 beta, we tested the product’s functional capacities. BusinessObjects XI Release 2 allows us to protect our important investment in the previous versions of the product, and to make our users converge on a richer and strengthened infrastructure. We tested the migration of 1,000 documents and we expect the new migration tool within BusinessObjects XI Release 2 to be further strengthened in the next months. BusinessObjects XI Release 2 offers strong functional innovations, mainly in line with our web strategy, the level of maturity reached by Web Intelligence, and the introduction of the multi-dimensional analysis through OLAP Intelligence™.”

“As a customer who has standardized on Business Objects globally, we are delighted that BusinessObjects XI Release 2 allows us to build on our existing investment by continuing to provide pioneering technology that meets our evolving business needs,” said Ed Johnson, solutions architect at AstraZeneca. “It will transform our ability to deliver information to more users, providing greater clarity, business context, and guided decision making. Specifically, BusinessObjects Intelligent Question is a groundbreaking innovation that will allow any employee, whatever their role or level of expertise, to easily ask questions and quickly get the answers they need to help them do their job more effectively. In addition, we are impressed that all of these capabilities are available on one integrated platform that can provide us with one point of access for all our BI content. We look forward to leveraging the powerful capabilities in BusinessObjects XI Release 2 to give us a competitive edge, whether helping us be first-to-market with new products, or to better manage overall business performance.”

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City
“We absolutely plan to migrate to BusinessObjects XI Release 2,” said Erik Brokaw, systems architect at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City. “We believe there are groups of users within Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City who want to use business intelligence, but up until this point, have felt a bit intimidated by BI. We are very excited about rolling out Intelligent Question to these users so they have an easy-to-use tool that gives them guided support to ask questions and get the answers they need to do their jobs effectively.”

Edward Health Services
“Information is our organization’s most valuable asset, and access to it needs to be appropriately controlled,” said Mary Schulte, manager of programming services at Edward Health Services Corporation. “BusinessObjects XI Release 2 gives Edward Health Services the ability to deliver on all our BI requirements. Specifically, we are very impressed with the enhanced security features within BusinessObjects XI Release 2. This enables us to have both control and flexibility by allowing us to give each user access to as much or as little information as they need to be successful. And the data is displayed in a way that people think and that will get them the answers they need.”

Penske Logistics
“As a global transportation provider, it is critical that our employees around the world get the business answers that affect how we work each day,” said Tom Nather, senior systems analyst for Penske Logistics. “BusinessObjects Intelligent Question can give our users the opportunity to get the information they need to answer the most relevant business questions of the day. With Intelligent Question, our users can always ask the right question, for example, ‘what are my vehicle types with the highest utilization rates?’ or, ‘which of my locations have the best on-time performance?’ By not guessing at the question, we always get the right answer, and that ultimately improves customer satisfaction and the company’s bottom line.”

Rogers Wireless
“The migration to BusinessObjects XI Release 2 was very straightforward. We migrated more than 300 documents, and it went very well,” said Laxmidher Nuthulapati, senior systems analyst at Rogers Wireless. “Right now, we are on BusinessObjects 6.5, but we are definitely interested in moving to BusinessObjects XI Release 2. We see an immediate value in the new platform, and believe BusinessObjects XI Release 2 will help us more easily expand and manage our existing BI deployment.”

Simon & Schuster
“BusinessObjects Intelligent Question is a really simple-to-use solution, that is what makes it so powerful and one of the most impressive innovations in business intelligence I have seen in a while,” said Paul Zanis, director of corporate data architecture at Simon & Schuster, a global leader in general interest publishing. “Intelligent Question will be a great starting point for executives and other employees to leverage the benefits of business intelligence and get answers to the questions that will help them improve the way they do their job. In addition, the ability to move the answers to BusinessObjects Web Intelligence allows an executive to easily share results with a business analyst who may want to do deeper, more complex analysis.”

NHS Services Scotland
“The new functionality in BusinessObjects XI Release 2 enables NHS Services Scotland to leverage the powerful reporting capability of the full client product in a web based environment,” said Jill Smith, applications manager at NHS Services Scotland. “Users will be able to link queries from multiple data sources across the intranet, allowing us to roll out access to our corporate data warehouse to authorized users across Scotland. For the first time clinicians, managers, and analysts across the Service will have ready access to local and national data through one web interface, helping them deliver an efficient and effective health service.”

Volvo Group
“Our testing of BusinessObjects XI Release 2 revealed significant enhancements across the product line that most certainly improves our ability to extend business intelligence to all of our users,” said Patrick Van Heirseele, product responsible for BI tools at Volvo Information Technology. “A very interesting function in this new version is the database ranking. We finally can move some of our full client users to the Web Intelligence™ environment which will generate important cost savings in the software deployment process within our company. We also tested the import wizard tool, as well as the conversion tool, which worked well. Even complex reports can now be converted successfully to a Web Intelligence format. Finally, we were very pleased with the support and assistance received during the beta tests and also the willingness of the product group to listen to use and take into account our advice.”
