Paris, October 18, 2005 – Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that it has successfully completed the deployment of its first Mobile Next Generation Network (Mobile NGN) in China for Zhejiang Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile. With this network in place, Zhejiang Mobile will be able to improve quality of service, reduce network operation and maintenance costs. The next generation network project was implemented by Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel’s flagship Chinese company.
Alcatel’s Mobile NGN solution is an innovative, standard-based distributed mobile switching solution. The cornerstone of this solution for Zhejiang Mobile is the Alcatel 5020 Wireless Call Server, a multi-standard mobile call server that controls distributed media gateways and manages both voice and data service sessions. Its distributed architecture will result in significant cost efficiency and great simplicity in the design of Zhejiang Mobile’s network.
