CATIA is a mainstay of the auto design community, allowing quick adaptation of an existing design to create additional vehicles on the same platform. This capability, among numerous other CATIA functions, is critical in making gains in the overall product development process and helps drive down cost, as well as improve quality.

In 2007, DS acquired ICEM, the leading worldwide developer of advanced surface modeling, design and visualization software. ICEM is a critical design component at many of the world¡¯s leading automotive, aerospace, sporting goods and consumer durable products manufacturers and their suppliers.

¡°Automotive designers find inspiration and styling cues from other industries, such as aerospace, luxury goods, fashion, furniture and architectural design,¡± Asensio notes. ¡°Dassault Syst¨¨mes has a long history of supporting these industries, bringing together design, engineering and manufacturing in a cohesive manner through PLM.¡±
