Rolls-Royce secures Trent 700 order with AWAS

Rolls-Royce announced today that AWAS, one of the world’s largest aircraft lessors, has selected the Trent 700 to power up to six Airbus A330s.

AWAS has firm orders for four aircraft, with options for two more, with a potential engine value of more than $200 million to Rolls-Royce.

Franklin Pray, President and CEO of AWAS said today: “We pride ourselves at identifying customer requirements and responding to these with the best possible solutions. We feel the Trent 700-powered A330 meets our customer’s expectations. This is the market-leading engine on this airframe and its operating economics are second-to-none.”

Nick Devall, Executive Vice President – Airlines, Rolls-Royce said: “The rapid growth of AWAS from its formation in 1985 to one of the world’s largest aircraft leasing companies has been based upon its ability to match a customer’s needs with the best product available – and the Trent 700 continues to be the engine of choice.”

The Trent 700 is the market leader on the Airbus A330 with a 53 per cent market share. It delivers outstanding levels of performance and the highest available thrust on the A330, resulting in increased operational flexibility.

Latest technologies fed into the engine as a performance improvement package have created a competitive advantage for the Trent 700. It delivers better fuel burn, which translates into lower emissions. It is the quietest and cleanest option for the A330, with the greatest margin to CAEP 4 legislation.

Note to Editors:

Over the next three years, approximately 60 per cent of A330 deliveries will be Trent 700-powered, including all follow-on orders from existing customers.

Trent 700s have achieved eight and a half million flying hours and almost two and a half million flights on 214 A330s.

A programme of continuous improvement, involving the introduction of the latest Trent family technology to the Trent 700, will ensure increased benefits to customers, such as the lowest fuel burn of any engine on the A330.

Rolls-Royce is working hard to improve the environmental impact of its products. Last year Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with its partners, invested more than £800 million in research and development, two thirds of which was aimed at reducing the environmental impact of its products. This technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise and emissions.
