Allstate Insurance Company (NYSE:ALL) announced today it is inviting Chicagoland-area children to enter the Allstate Design-a-Chicago-Playground Contest, (www.Yourplayground.org) a design competition offering six-12-year olds the chance to design the U.S. Olympic-themed virtual playground of their dreams for the chance to win cash awards and prizes.
Three contest winners will receive $1,000 in sports equipment for their school, a $500 savings bond, a $250 Visa gift card and a chance to participate in an online Chicago Children’s Museum design exhibit in 2009. Contest winners will be announced in March of 2009.
“We’re proud of our involvement in the Chicago land community and this program represents another way that we are celebrating the customers we serve,” said Alice Byrne, field vice president, Midwest region for Allstate. “The Design-a-Playground Contest is an ideal way to recruit the next generation of U.S. Olympians to help us create a symbolic, physical legacy that celebrates the accomplishments of past and present U.S. Olympic Team members.”
The virtual playground contest, which will help inspire an Allstate-sponsored playground at the Jesse Owens Park in Chicago, is an extension of Allstate’s sponsorship of the United States Olympic Team and its commitment to enhancing playgrounds in communities across the United States. In June 2008, Allstate announced a partnership with the United States Olympic Committee and the Chicago Park District to support the development and construction of a new state of the art playground at the Jesse Owens Park on Chicago’s South Side. The playground, which will be built in September of 2009 will honor Olympic Hall of Fame athletes, including Jesse Owens, and will also be designed for children of all mobility levels.
