Petrobras’ Gas & Energy officer, Maria da Graça Foster, took part in the second day of the International Conference on Biofuels, scheduled to be held through November 21, in São Paulo. The executive participated in the plenary session and debated with national and international specialists about “Biofuels & Sustainability: food safety, income generation, challenges for the ecosystems.”
Moderated by senator and former Environment minister Marina Silva, the debate brought up, among others, issues such as sustainability and biofuels as an energetic alternative. The officer highlighted that energy safety is directly related to the sovereignty of a country. “There are factors that favor biofuel production in Brazil, such as its climate, soil, technology, and human resources: everything that is essential to be successful in the segment,” completed Graça.
The following personalities also participated in the plenary session: Ignacy Sachs – economist, professor emeritus of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris); Alicia Bárcena – executive secretary for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Cepal); Enrique Iglesias – general secretary for the Iberian-American Cooperation; Armando Mariante Carvalho junior – vice-president of the Brazilian Development Bank (Bndes); Per Carstedt – president of the Sekab group; and Roberto Smeraldi – an officer of the Amigos da Terra/Amazônia Brasileira NGO.
Organized by the Cabinet and by the Ministry of Foreign Relations, the 1st International Conference on Biofuels is bringing together heads of State, public authorities, the scientific and academic community, the private initiative, the civil society, and NGOs to debate issues such as energy safety, sustainable production and use, agriculture and industrial processing, in addition to matters connected to technical specifications and standards, international trade, climate changes and the future of biofuels. The event is taking place parallelly to the 1st International Biofuel Exhibition, in which Petrobras is participating with a stand in which Company and Transpetro representatives are available to answer questions.
