Students Will Use ThinkQuest to Connect with NASA Scientists and Astronauts
Redwood Shores, CA – December 3, 2008
News Facts
The Oracle Education Foundation (OEF) has partnered with Stamford Achieves to launch an innovative project entitled “Global NetGeneration of Youth Investigating the Careers of NASA International Space Station Leaders” (NGY-NASA ISS).
The project will leverage ThinkQuest, OEF’s online learning platform. ThinkQuest enables teachers to integrate learning projects into their classroom curricula and students to develop critical 21st century skills, including creativity, communication, teamwork, and technology skills.
As part of the project, students and teachers from three high schools in the U.S. and Canada will use ThinkQuest to establish a learning community that integrates NASA resources into the classroom.
Students will also use ThinkQuest to connect and form multinational teams of cyberjournalists, who will interview and investigate the careers of NASA scientists, engineers, and astronauts. Teams will use ThinkQuest’s online publishing tools to create multimedia content, including articles, photo essays, presentations, and videos.
Participating schools include the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering in Stamford, Connecticut; Susan Miller Dorsey Senior High in Los Angeles, California; and Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Canada.
OEF formed a partnership with Stamford Achieves in 2008 based on their shared mission to help prepare students for life and work in the 21st century.
