Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines, the market leader on the Airbus A330, have powered the first scheduled flight of Aeroflot’s new A330-200, marking the Trent aero engine’s entry into service in Russia.
The A330-200, which flew from Sheremetyevo Airport, Moscow, to St. Petersburg Pulkovo, on 4 December, is the newest addition to Aeroflot’s fleet. The airline will take ten leased A330-200s and A330-300s, all powered by the Trent 700. All the engines will be supported by Rolls-Royce under a long-term TotalCare® service agreement and the total value of the previously-announced business to Rolls-Royce is around $600 million at list prices.
Nick Devall, Executive Vice-President Customer Business, Rolls-Royce, said: “The arrival of the first Trent in Russia demonstrates the growing presence of Rolls-Royce in the Russian market. This is a significant milestone for Aeroflot and Rolls-Royce and we hope to expand our partnership with the Rolls-Royce Trent 700 – the ideal powerplant for the airline’s medium and long-haul routes – as the airline develops its plans for the new fleet.”
The success of the Trent 700, the market leader on the A330 with a 53 per cent market share, is based on the Rolls-Royce strategy of tailoring engines specifically for their aircraft application.
This has given the company a leading 50 per cent market share on modern widebody aircraft, with more than 1,500 Trent engines in service on over 550 aircraft and around a further 2,500 on order. Each of the six engines in the Trent family has either been the first or launch engine on an airframe, or has gone on to take the leading market share.
The Trent 700 delivers outstanding levels of performance and the highest available thrust on the A330, resulting in increased operational flexibility.
Latest technologies fed into the engine as a performance improvement package mean the Trent 700 is optimised for greater fuel efficiency and payload performance. Its improved fuel burn also translates into lower emissions. It is also the quietest and cleanest option for the A330, with the greatest margin to Chapter 4 noise rules.
The first A330 for Aeroflot was handed over recently to the airline at the Airbus production facility in Toulouse, France.

Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 engines will power up to 15 Tupolev Tu-204 aircraft, comprising five firm orders for freighter aircraft and options for ten more aircraft in either passenger or freighter configuration. The first Rolls-Royce powered cargo Tu-204 was supplied to Air China Cargo on October 27, 2008. Four Rolls-Royce powered Tu-204 aircraft are in service with Air-Cairo.
There are over 40 Rolls-Royce-powered Western helicopters in Russia. Rolls-Royce has also signed a contract with Kamov-Holding for supply of 50 Rolls-Royce Model 250-C20R engines in support of the Kamov Ka-226 light-twin helicopter programme.
