Alcatel-Lucent selects Sahara Computers as a value-added distributor in Southern and East African markets

Paris and Johannesburg, October 14, 2009 – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has selected Sahara Computers, a leading supplier of information communications and digital lifestyle technology in Africa, as a new value-added distributor. Working with Alcatel-Lucent, Sahara Computers will address the IP networking needs for local integrators who install and support communication solutions for small and medium businesses in the Southern and East African markets.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sahara Computers, which is part of Sahara Holdings, will offer the full suite of Alcatel-Lucent’s enterprise communications solutions to small businesses and large enterprises across the Southern and East African market.

“Partnering with a communications leader such as Alcatel-Lucent will allow us to expand our activities and serve more customers in the region, while improving our communication solutions offerings,” said Atul Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of Sahara Computers. “We expect that the synergy between Alcatel-Lucent’s world-class enterprise portfolio and our strong growth model will help us increase revenues. To ensure our mutual success, we have appointed a specialized team that will promote and market efficient supply of IP security, voice and data solutions to end customers through our channels.”

The new program offer is designed to recruit, train, certify, support and provide innovative communication solutions to indirect resellers in order to broaden distribution and better address the growing communications needs of the enterprise market in South and East Africa – helping businesses become dynamic enterprises where network, people, process and knowledge work together to improve productivity. Sahara Computers will gain tools to create marketing campaigns and messaging guidance focused on small- and medium-sized businesses. It will also have access to sales training focused on the importance of end-user engagement, and on transforming business processes rather than just providing technical solution details.

“This new partnership demonstrates Alcatel-Lucent’s ongoing commitment to the growth of our enterprise business through channels in Africa,” said Jan Zuurbier Vice-President for Alcatel-Lucent’s enterprise activities in Emerging Countries. “Alcatel-Lucent has proven expertise in the enterprise networking arena and provides a widespread array of networking solutions and deployment throughout in the continent.”
