Medium voltage power products to support network upgrade
Zurich, Switzerland, March 4, 2010 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has signed a $12 million framework agreement to supply medium voltage power equipment to ESB Networks, Ireland’s nationwide power distribution utility.
The four-year framework agreement includes supply of 24 kV SafeRing Ring Main Units (RMUs) to help upgrade the utility’s secondary distribution network across Ireland and follows a similar previous agreement completed with ESB.
“This reaffirms ESB’s faith in ABB’s products and the excellent performance of SafeRing in particular”, said Markus Heimbach, global head of the Medium Voltage Products business a part of the company’s Power Products division.
The upgrade will contribute to more efficient and reliable power distribution and help meet local consumer needs. The SafeRing units will also contribute to enhanced safety and are virtually maintenance-free.
ESB Networks is the licensed operator of the electricity distribution system in the Republic of Ireland and is responsible for building, operating, maintaining and developing the electricity network and serving electricity customers across the country.
