Paris, March 30, 2010 – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced the appointment of Luc Defieuw as CEO Alcatel-Lucent Bell and Vice President of its business in the Benelux, effective April 1st, 2010. Luc, who will be based in Antwerp, will report to Adolfo Hernandez, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s business in EMEA. Luc replaces Paul Depuydt, who after 19 years in the company has decided to pursue new opportunities outside of the company.
In his new position, Luc Defieuw will assume overall responsibility for managing the day-to-day business activities of Alcatel-Lucent in Benelux.
“With his vast experience in the telecommunications industry, his affinity with the local market as well as his familiarity with the teams in Belgium, Luc is ideally positioned to take up the role of CEO of Alcatel-Lucent Bell and head for the Benelux operations,” said Adolfo Hernandez. “I also would like to take the opportunity to thank Paul Depuydt for the excellent work he has done and wish him all the best in his future undertakings.”
Luc Defieuw is currently Vice President for Procurement and Project Sourcing at Alcatel-Lucent headquarters in Paris, and brings in more than 20 years of experience in telecommunications.
From December 2006 till December 2007, Luc already functioned as the Country Senior Officer, leading the sales activities in Northern Europe, next to CEO Paul Depuydt. He also held several other positions within the company as CEO of the UK and Ireland, General Manager Northern Europe of the Optics Division, Key Account Manager of the Belgacom Group, Director external communications. He started his career in 1986 with Alcatel in Antwerp as project manager in a.o. Russia and Latin-America.
Luc received a Masters degree in Mathematics in 1980 and later on perfected his management skills with a Postgraduate in Business Economics in 1989 and a Master in Business Administration in 1992.
