Eni Scholars Programme created at Oxford University

Three scholarships will be made available to students applying from Angola, Ghana and Nigeria for a selected number of programmes which include a geopolitical or energy related offering through St Antony’s College

Oxford , 13 February 2011 – Eni has today announced the creation of an Eni Scholars Programme at the University of Oxford in a ceremony attended by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

The Eni Scholars will be drawn from applicants who have already been awarded a postgraduate place at the University of Oxford. In this, the first year of the programme, three scholarships will be made available to students applying from Angola, Ghana and Nigeria for a selected number of programmes which include a geopolitical or energy related offering through St Antony’s College. It is the intention to select one Eni scholar from each country for either a one year MSc or MSt degree, or a two year MPhil degree.

The scholarships will be fully funded (fees and living expenses) and are intended to help develop the potential of future African political, social and business leaders. Priority will be given to those students expressing an intention to return to their host countries following the completion of the scholarship programme.

Eni has a very long tradition of supporting scholarships. The “Scuola Enrico Mattei” paved the way for post graduate education in Italy and proved to be a pioneer for managerial studies in Europe. Since 1957 the “Scuola” has granted scholarships to around 2600 young graduates from 110 different countries to attend an oil and energy industry MBA programme spreading the Mattei legacy throughout the world. Eni’s training, recruitment and knowledge management is promoted and implemented through Eni Corporate University. In order to reinforce the company’s expertise in its business areas, Eni Corporate University avails itself of a long established relational network with the most prestigious national and international universities. Amongst these esteemed institutions Eni can count on the collaboration of Oxford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Johns Hopkins University besides the leading Italian Universities.
