American Express (NYSE: AXP) was honored by The National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large, U. S. employers, for their ongoing commitment to reducing healthcare disparities in the workplace and for supporting a diverse workforce.
American Express was among six companies to be recognized with “Awards for Innovation in Reducing Health Care Disparities.” The inaugural awards were presented at the National Business Group on Health’s 2011 Business Health Agenda held in Washington, D.C. on Friday.
American Express successfully created an integrated data warehouse to better understand health care disparities for their employee population and have demonstrated results of all ethnicities having migrated from high risk to low and medium risk categories. The company is also using this data to address disparities through its use of on-site health clinics, wellness program, and partnerships with health plans.
“We are proud to be honored by the National Business Group on Health,” said David Kasiarz, Senior Vice President of Global Compensation and Benefits, American Express. “Health is not one size fits all. A first step towards helping our employees to become healthier is to understand what their needs are. We will continue to invest in providing employees with the tools and resources necessary to improve their health and the quality of their everyday life. A healthy employee is a happier and more productive employee, providing best-in-class customer service for American Express.”
Helen Darling, president and CEO of the National Business Group on Health added, “By addressing health and health care disparities, employers are improving the value, quality and effectiveness of the services their employees receive through health care benefits and productivity programs. American Express deserves great credit for its leadership in addressing health care disparities and providing a state of the heart health and wellness program for its employees and dependents.”
American Express created Healthy Living, an innovative corporate wellness program, to provide a broad array of benefits and services to its employees, and their families. Through supportive resources, enhanced access to care and incentives to help foster healthy changes, Healthy Living aims to help its employees achieve greater physical, psychological, social and financial well-being.
