Quick start tunnel freezer to be showcased at Foodex 2014

Stand K338, Hall 19, NEC (24-26 March 2014)
March 13, 2014 London, UK

Air Products will be showcasing its state-of-the-art, compact tunnel freezing system that uses liquid nitrogen to quickly freeze a variety of food products at Foodex 2014.

The Freshline QS tunnel freezer has been developed by Air Products in direct response to customer research findings among smaller, independent food businesses. In particular, customers said they wanted to experiment with new frozen product lines at the same time as increasing their freezing capacity but without necessarily taking up more floor space. The entry-level Freshline® QS tunnel is just 5.6m in length and is capable of freezing up to 350 kg/hr.

Since its introduction last year, the compact tunnel freezing system has succeeded in extending the benefits of cryogenic freezing technology to a wider variety of food businesses in the UK and across Europe.

Ann Callens, European food sector specialist at Air Products, said:

“Smaller food businesses are increasingly finding that it is necessary to experiment regularly to introduce product refinements and develop lines that will be even more appealing to consumers. Time for product testing is usually required before taking new lines to retailers. Compared with mechanical freezers, cryogenic freezing systems are an ideal way to quick freeze foods on a budget because the technology can be rented and does not require an upfront capital investment.

The smaller size of the Freshline® QS tunnel makes it ideal for businesses where floor space is at a premium too.”

For food businesses that package their food products onsite, Air Products will also be showcasing its Freshline® Plus cylinder range – a range of innovative gas cylinders with antimicrobial surface technology, which are suitable for use in hygienic food processing environments. The cylinder has been developed specifically for use in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) applications and also benefits from a built-in filter to ensure gas purity and minimise the risk of contamination.

Michelle Jackson, Air Products’ European MAP manager, said:

“Maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety is vital in the food processing industry. When used as part of a MAP packaging solution, this hi-tech cylinder range is perfect for taking into the food packaging environment and offers food processors complete peace of mind.”
